Whiplash
Whiplash is a neck injury caused by a sudden back-and-forth motion of the head, most often in a rear-end car collision but also in falls and contact sports. The muscles, ligaments, joints, and discs of the neck can all be strained, and symptoms sometimes take a day or more to appear.
Common signs
- Neck pain and stiffness, often worse the day after the injury
- Headaches, usually starting at the base of the skull
- Reduced ability to turn the head
- Shoulder, upper back, or arm pain; tingling in the arms
- Dizziness, fatigue, or trouble concentrating
How Dr. Raby evaluates it
A history of the accident, an exam of the neck and upper back, and X-rays when indicated to rule out fracture or instability. If your exam shows signs that need emergency care, Dr. Raby will send you for it first.
Care options at Dynamic Chiropractic
Once serious injury has been ruled out, a plan may include chiropractic adjustments, trigger point therapy, SoftWave therapy, and a progression of gentle range-of-motion and strengthening exercises. If your injury was from a car accident, see our Auto Accident Injury page for how we handle documentation and insurance.
