Herniated & Bulging Disc
The discs between your vertebrae act as cushions. When the outer wall of a disc weakens, the disc can bulge outward; when the inner material pushes through the wall, it is called a herniation. Either can press on nearby nerves and cause pain that is felt in the back or neck and sometimes down an arm or leg.
Common signs
- Back or neck pain that worsens with sitting, bending, or coughing
- Pain, tingling, or numbness that travels into an arm or leg
- Weakness in a leg or arm
- Pain that eases when lying down
How Dr. Raby evaluates disc problems
Your first visit includes a history, a physical and orthopedic exam, and X-rays when indicated. Disc herniations do not show on plain X-rays, so if your exam suggests one, Dr. Raby may refer you for an MRI before recommending care.
Care options at Dynamic Chiropractic
Depending on your findings, a care plan may include chiropractic adjustments, spinal decompression, SoftWave therapy, and a home stretching and strengthening program. Dr. Raby will explain which options fit your situation and will refer you to another provider if your case calls for it.
