Back Pain Care in Fort Lauderdale

Back pain is the most common reason people walk into our office. It can come on suddenly after lifting something, or build slowly over months of sitting, driving, and stress. Either way, the first step is the same: find out what is actually causing it.

Common causes we evaluate

  • Facet joint irritation — the small joints at the back of each vertebra can become inflamed and stiff
  • Disc problems — bulging or herniated discs that press on nearby nerves
  • Muscle strain and spasm — often from overuse, poor lifting mechanics, or prolonged sitting
  • Postural stress — hours at a desk, on a phone, or behind the wheel
  • Spinal or foraminal stenosis — narrowing of the spaces the spinal cord and nerves pass through
  • Pinched nerves — pressure on a nerve root that can send pain, numbness, or tingling into the legs

How we approach back pain

Your first visit includes a consultation with Dr. Raby, a physical and chiropractic examination, and X-rays when they are clinically appropriate. We review the findings with you before recommending any care.

Depending on what we find, care may include chiropractic adjustments using techniques such as Diversified, Gonstead, Thompson, or Activator; soft-tissue work for tight or spasming muscles; and specific stretching and strengthening guidance you can do at home. For certain back conditions, SoftWave Therapy may be recommended as part of the plan.

When to seek care

Back pain that lasts more than a few days, keeps coming back, or travels into your legs is worth having evaluated. Pain with numbness, weakness, or changes in bladder or bowel control should be assessed urgently.
