Chiropractic Adjustment
A chiropractic adjustment is a precise, controlled movement applied to a joint that is not moving the way it should. The goal is straightforward: restore motion, reduce irritation around the joint, and let the surrounding muscles relax.
Techniques Dr. Raby uses
Dr. Raby is trained in several adjusting methods and chooses based on your body, your condition, and your comfort:
- Diversified — the most widely used manual technique
- Gonstead — a specific, analysis-driven manual approach
- Thompson — a drop-table technique that uses less force
- Activator — a small handheld instrument for a gentle, low-force adjustment
- Upper Cervical — focused work on the top of the neck
- Extremities — adjusting of shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles

What to expect
Before any adjustment, you will have a consultation and examination, and X-rays when they are clinically appropriate. Nothing is done without your consent. Many patients notice a change in motion or comfort after the first visit; for most conditions a short series of visits is recommended so the improvement holds.
You may hear a popping sound during an adjustment. That is gas releasing from the joint fluid, the same as when you crack your knuckles, and it is not bones moving against each other.
Who it is for
Dr. Raby has adjusted patients from newborns to grandparents, including pregnant women and athletes. The examination determines whether adjusting is appropriate for you and which technique fits.
