Trigger Point Therapy
[[PENDING CONFIRMATION — service availability]]
A trigger point is a tight, tender band within a muscle that hurts when pressed and often sends pain somewhere else — a knot in the upper shoulder that produces a headache, or one in the buttock that mimics sciatica. Trigger point therapy is focused, hands-on pressure applied to release that band.
Conditions where trigger points are often involved
- Neck and shoulder tension
- Tension-type headaches
- Low back and hip pain
- Sciatica-like pain from the piriformis muscle
- Sports and overuse injuries
- Plantar fasciitis and calf tightness
What to expect
After examination identifies the trigger points involved, sustained pressure is applied to each one until the muscle releases, followed by stretching. There can be brief discomfort during the pressure itself and mild soreness afterward, similar to a deep massage. Trigger point work is usually part of a broader plan that includes adjustments and home stretching.
