Scoliosis
Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine, most often first noticed in adolescence. Many curves are mild and cause no symptoms; others contribute to back pain, uneven posture, or stiffness in adulthood.
What we evaluate
- The location and degree of the curve, using examination and X-ray when appropriate
- Whether the curve is contributing to pain, muscle imbalance, or reduced mobility
- Posture, pelvic alignment, and leg-length differences
How chiropractic care fits in
Chiropractic care does not straighten a scoliotic curve. What it can address is the pain, stiffness, and muscle imbalance that often accompany one. Care may include adjustments to restricted spinal segments, soft-tissue work, and strengthening exercises for the muscles that support the spine. For larger or progressing curves, particularly in growing children, we coordinate with your physician or a spine specialist.
