Mid-Back Pain
The thoracic spine — the twelve vertebrae between your neck and lower back — is built for stability. When it hurts, the cause is often stiffness from sitting hunched over a screen, a rib joint that has become irritated, or muscle tension between the shoulder blades.
Common causes
- Postural strain from prolonged sitting or screen use
- Thoracic joint restriction (stiff segments in the mid-back)
- Rib joint irritation, which can feel sharp with deep breaths
- Muscle tension in the rhomboids and mid-trapezius
- Referred pain from the neck or shoulders
How we can help
Examination looks at spinal motion, rib mechanics, and posture. Care may include adjustments to restricted thoracic segments and ribs, soft-tissue work between the shoulder blades, and posture and strengthening guidance for the muscles that hold you upright.
