Neck Pain
The neck supports the weight of your head through every hour you spend looking at a screen, driving, or sleeping in an awkward position. Neck pain can be a dull ache, a sharp catch when you turn, or stiffness that limits how far you can look over your shoulder.
Common causes
- Cervical joint restriction or irritation
- Disc bulge in the neck, which can refer pain into the shoulder or arm
- Muscle strain from posture, stress, or sleeping position
- Whiplash-type injury from a car accident or fall
- Forward-head posture from prolonged device use
How we evaluate and care for neck pain
Dr. Raby examines cervical motion, posture, and the nerves that travel from the neck into the arms. Care may include adjustments using Diversified or Upper Cervical techniques, soft-tissue work for the muscles of the neck and upper shoulders, and guidance on posture, pillow height, and workstation setup.
Neck pain that follows an accident, or that comes with arm numbness, tingling, or weakness, should be evaluated promptly.
